King Charles takes “swipe” at Donald Trump in latest speech

King Charles delivered a speech on Tuesday to honor what would have been his mother, Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday. However, one royal commentator has since suggested that a section of his remarks appeared to be a subtle “swipe” at President Donald Trump, just weeks before the King and Queen are scheduled to travel to the White House.

Last year, Donald Trump and his wife, Melania Trump, met with King Charles and members of the Royal Family. The visit seemed to go well, with King Charles and Queen Camilla accepting an invitation to the White House later in April as part of the celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Buckingham Palace has officially confirmed that the royal couple will travel to the United States, where they are expected to meet President Donald Trump. The state visit has been anticipated for some time.

However, official visits of this nature are conducted on behalf of the UK government, and according to the BBC, the formal announcement was reportedly delayed until tensions related to the conflict involving Iran had eased.

The full itinerary for King Charles and Queen Camilla during their visit to the United States has not yet been made public. Nevertheless, the King is reportedly expected to deliver an address to Congress.

This will mark the first official UK state visit to the United States since Queen Elizabeth’s trip in 2007.

At that time, Barack Obama was serving as president.

Although the upcoming visit is expected to be “terrific,” one royal expert has now pointed to comments that have sparked concern. On Tuesday, April 21, Queen Elizabeth II would have celebrated her 100th birthday, and a commemorative event was held at Buckingham Palace.

King Charles says late Queen would be ‘troubled’ by today’s world

King Charles to visit Donald Trump at the White House

Donald Trump announced on social media that the royal visit to the United States is scheduled to take place from April 27 through April 30.

The president said that a “beautiful Banquet Dinner at the White House on the evening of April 28th” would be held. He also stated that he and First Lady Melania Trump were “looking forward to spending time with the King, whom I greatly respect.” Trump concluded by saying the visit would be “TERRIFIC.”

Queen Elizabeth was the longest-serving and longest-living monarch in British history, reigning for 70 years before passing away in September 2022 at the age of 96.

In a televised address, King Charles reflected on how his mother influenced the world around her and touched the lives of countless people. At the same time, he suggested that she would likely have been concerned by many of the issues facing the world today.

“Today, as we mark what would have been my beloved mother’s 100th birthday, my family and I pause to reflect on the life and loss of a sovereign who meant so much to us all, and to celebrate anew the many blessings of her memory,” King Charles said.

“Millions will remember her for moments of national significance; many others for a fleeting personal encounter, a smile, a kind word that lifted spirits, or for that marvelous twinkle of the eye when sharing a marmalade sandwich with Paddington Bear in the final months of her life.”

He continued, “Much about the times we now live in, I suspect, may have troubled her deeply, but I take heart from her belief that goodness will always prevail and that a brighter dawn is never far from the horizon,” Charles said. “God bless you, darling mama. You remain forever in our hearts and prayers.”

King Charles’ reference to the “troubled” state of the modern world prompted a reaction from royal expert Kinsey Schofield. Speaking on Sky News, Schofield argued that the King’s tribute to Queen Elizabeth was an indirect “swipe” at Donald Trump and the tensions involving Iran.

“I’m going to be honest, maybe I’m just sensitive … but I felt like that was a swipe at what’s going on in the United States between Donald Trump and Iran,” Schofield said.

“When he’s talking about global issues, I don’t think that’s a direct swipe at ex-prince Andrew, but I’d suggest she might be a little bit more worried about what’s going on at her back porch,” she added.

Despite the speculation, Buckingham Palace has not indicated that King Charles was referring to Donald Trump or any specific political leader during his speech. The Palace has not issued any statement suggesting that the King’s remarks were intended as criticism of a particular country or individual.

Royal commentators have long noted that members of the British Royal Family traditionally avoid making direct political statements. Instead, their public speeches often focus on broader themes such as unity, compassion, peace, and public service, allowing audiences to interpret their words in different ways.

King Charles has frequently spoken about the importance of cooperation between nations, environmental responsibility, and maintaining peace during times of global uncertainty. His latest tribute to Queen Elizabeth II continued that message by emphasizing hope and the belief that kindness and goodness can overcome difficult challenges.

As preparations continue for the upcoming state visit to the United States, attention is likely to remain on every public appearance and statement made by both King Charles and President Donald Trump. The visit is expected to strengthen the long-standing relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States, despite ongoing international tensions and political debate.

Whether the King’s comments were simply a heartfelt reflection on the current state of the world or carried a deeper political meaning remains a matter of opinion. For now, no official confirmation has been given to support claims that the speech was aimed at President Donald Trump.
